The period between Thanksgiving and New Year’s gives Americans an opportunity to slow down and share special time with family and friends. But those gatherings typically center around food and entertaining which, in turn, generates a lot of waste.

Americans throw away 25% more trash between Thanksgiving and New Year’s than at any other time of the year, according to uselessstuff.com. That extra 25% adds up to 25 million extra tons of waste including food, wrapping paper, old toys and packaging. The environmental impact is enormous. But Trex can help.

Most of our products are made almost exclusively from recycled materials. The recycled wood in our decking is combined with recycled plastic from a variety of sources. Instead of throwing away the plastic bags and some of the other waste generated during the holidays, consider dropping it off at a local retail store that participates in Trex recycling. Overwrap from paper towels and toilet paper, the plastic inside cereal boxes, bread bags, dry cleaning bags, newspaper sleeves and grocery and shopping bags can all be reused to make our beautiful Trex decking. In fact, the average 500-square-foot composite Trex deck contains 140,000 recycled plastic bags, making us one of the largest bag recyclers in the country.
